The British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) was honoured to host its very first Annual Eid Gala Dinner, presided over by the Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester which took place on Friday 7th November 2014. More than 400 guests from the region and beyond, including dignitaries attended.
The dinner was a key event in Greater Manchester and the BMHC hopes that the Eid Gala Dinner becomes a permanent fixture on the Greater Manchester calendar every year.
The dinner represented an important opportunity for people of different faiths and backgrounds to come together, celebrate and renew commitments to each other and the wider community, to make it stronger and more cohesive.
Special Guests speakers at the dinner included; Jehangir Malik (UK Director of Islamic Relief), Clive Memmott (Chief Executive of GMCC), Mr Tony Lloyd (PCC of Greater Manchester) Rt Hon Sir Gerald Kaufman (Member of Parliament) and Mr Afzal Khan, CBE (Member of European Parliament).
The Key Note Speaker for the evening was Sir Richard Leese, the leader of Manchester City Council who spoke about the vision of Greater Manchester in the year 2020. In his Key Note address Sir Richard Leese spoke about how Manchester has the fastest-growing population in the country and the region has the potential to achieve significant economic growth over the next few years. He also stated that the underlying vision and strategy for Manchester and the region will be to have pioneered a new model for sustainable economic growth where prosperity is accessible to everyone.
