BMHC press release on the New Zealand terrorist attack

Statement

Terrorist Attack on Muslims in Christchurch

We have been devastated to hear 50 people lost their lives and many others injured in the terrorist attack on 15 March 2019 which targeted Muslims attending Friday prayers at two mosques – Al Noor and Linwood – in Christchurch, New Zealand. The victims ranged from very young children to pensioners.

We express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, their friends and to the Government of New Zealand. We wish a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and friends, may Allah bless those passed away by offering them an abode in Paradise, and to provide patience to their families and friends for the irreplaceable loss of their loved ones.

We believe that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to local, national and international peace and understanding. We will continue to work with our multi-faith and non-faith partners including our political leaders and the media to ensure that we are united in tackling Islamophobia and hate wherever it comes from.
