BMHC's mission is "To celebrate Islam's rich and varied heritage, inspiring all communities to embrace diversity and to be instrumental in the shaping of a cohesive British society". It was therefore imperative that a strategically suitable site was located. The current BMHC site is ideal for a large National and International centre of excellence, integration, co-existence and community development in Britain.

The Centre is being established in phases and in a modular manner. This modular approach will enable the centre to provide services as early as possible whilst giving scope for expansion in the future.

The BMHC is envisaged to be fully developed in two main phases over five years.

Phase One

This phase has seen the acquisition of the BMHC site. The building and the surrounding area is an exceptionally fine Collegiate style grade II * listed building dating from 1840 located in an improving conservation area in a residential suburb of inner South West Manchester. It comprises approximately 2910 m2 (31,315 square feet) of accommodation, excluding circulation space and communal facilities, and a total of 4166 m2 of space (44,832 square feet) gross internal area set in mature landscaped grounds totalling 3,132 hectares (7.739 acres).

Restoration and other works which will be completed in this phase include:

  • Repair work to the fabric of the building.
  • Repair and Redecoration of all rooms in phases.
  • Maintaining or and Upgrading Mechanical and Electrical Services.
  • Eliminating long term deterioration.
  • Maintaining the character of the building
  • Rectification of structural defects.
  • Improving Health and Safety and Accessibility.

Phase Two

The completion of facilities required to fulfil the objectives of the BMHC, will require utilizing the 1.5 to 2.0 Acres of land at the rear of the site already earmarked for development.

The New Build will consist of a number of facilities some of which will be located on two floors. The amenities to be accommodated in the new development include:

Large capacity Multipurpose Halls, Conference Halls, a Prayer Hall, a Museum, a Library, Sports Halls, an IT Centre, a Skills Centre, a Swimming pool, a Gymnasium, a Cafe and a Restaurant.
