
 
The BMHC aims to promote integration through providing facilities, programmes and services that will attract people from a diversity of backgrounds.
The planned programmes and activities come under various sections as depicted in the diagram and include:
- Muslim Heritage
- Education and Training
- Community Programmes
- Sports & Recreational facilities
Exhibitions and Islamic Art - There will be a permanent exhibition of the history of Islam in Britain (starting from the eighth century). In addition, there will be other exhibits related to Islamic heritage, Interactive exhibitions and other activities centred on facilitating Islamic awareness and promotion of Islamic moderation, e.g. conferences, activities, festivals, etc.
Islamic gardens - There are around eight acres of land, and part of this will be used to establish the UK's first public Islamic gardens - which will attract people of all backgrounds from all over Britain.
The BMHC will be a centre for the British community. Social and Islamic spiritual activities will be provided. In addition, social and other activities designed to promote integration and bridge the gap between Muslims and the wider society will be provided.
The grounds will be used to hold social activities which will include: Eid parties, multicultural activities, festivals and weddings.
The existing historical building on the BMHC site was until recently used as a college and conference centre. The BMHC intends to continue providing training and educational services onsite. Many Training and Educational programmes and activities will be provided, e.g.
- Leadership and Management training programmes for Community leaders and Imams.
- Language Programmes
- Capacity Building Programmes
- Citizenship Programmes
- Religious Studies Programmes
- Life skills and job seeking activities including careers advice and guidance
The grounds provide the opportunity to develop other facilities such as a sports centre that can be used by men and women. Parts of the existing building will be used to provide recreational facilities.
BMHC is a charity and its main partners are supporting the vision and the core aims of the centre. The objectives of the centre are not commercial, but it is within the remit of the centre to develop strategies necessary for the BMHC to become self-sufficient.
The BMHC complex has operational areas where commercial income will be generated.
The four main operational areas of the BMHC are: Events Management, Heritage Centre, Offices and Training Suites.
The building has extensive lecture, seminar and meeting rooms with facilities for on-site catering and 74 double ensuite bedrooms. These facilities will be hired out to community organisations, charities, public sector bodies and private companies. |
