The Prince of Wales visited the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) on Wednesday 3rd April 2019 to celebrate 10 years of the BMHC in supporting and developing diverse communities. He was greeted by various schoolchildren during his visit and met members of the Muslim community and learned about the centre’s programme of education and community initiatives.
While at the centre the prince received a guided tour of the House of Wisdom, an exhibition devoted to highlighting some of the amazing achievements and contributions of Muslim civilization. The prince also received a tour of the Stories of Sacrifice exhibition, dedicated to the Muslim soldiers who fought for Britain during the First World War. The prince spoke with trustees, staff and representatives of local businesses and community groups.
The Prince of Wales praised the team at the British Muslim Heritage Centre for making a difference in their community. He told those gathered for his visit:
“I’ve been so impressed by all the different initiatives and projects you run here and the difference you are making, in terms of all the work you are doing in the community, but also in terms of linking all the other communities together. It is obviously of huge importance, this dialogue and activity.
If I may say so, I just wanted to congratulate you and to say how much I admire all the work you are doing. And how important your communities are here in this country.”
The Chair of the BMHC, Nasar Mahmood OBE said:
“We are honoured to have His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visit the British Muslim Heritage Centre to celebrate our work over the last 10 years. I am delighted that His Royal Highness has had the opportunity to meet our staff, volunteers, ambassadors, friends, partners from the public, business and diverse communities, including faith groups. It is their hard work that has made the centre what it is today. We have an exciting future ahead of us and we hope His Royal Highness will be able to visit us again in the near future.”
